Can I just sit and write here
whatever springs into my mind
scary... yes... like sharing ones morning papers
only now it is night and dark
and I am shivery and wraped in my shawl
though the thermostat says the house is warm
it was hot today... truly spring
and I pruned the cherry trees
so proud of my self climbing and getting the job done
there is the ladder and there is the monkey I told my neighbor from high in one tree
one has to balance the two like so many other things
some I don't do well like sleep and waking time
always reluctant to give up on the day always two more things to do
the coulds and shoulds and must dos
life can be so complicated ... so many choices
simplicity is a choice too
I could just go to bed
but then again .... maybe I just think I want simplicity

- I am a recently retired Kootenay gal (after almost 40 years in health care)How amazing to have the freedom to choose how I spend my time. I dedicate a lot of it to my home and property; tending fruit trees, vegetable, herb and flower gardens and mucking with a small pond where I am entertained by fish.I call it Tall Trees, an appropriate name, surrounded as it is by mostly large cedars and firs. I am often visited by elk and deer and the occasional bear and take total joy in all the birds and their songs. I share the place with my two cats. Other frequent visitors are my daughter and two grand children. Writing is another passion and now more time to read all manner of books. I am fortunate to have found spiritual community in both a Sufi and Dances of Universal Peace circle. I am one of several leaders of the dances in the Nelson area. I try to take time for outdoor recreation, biking the rail bed, swimming and canoeing the rivers and walking along them. Although winter is a more inward time, I get out on snowshoes and with a snow shovel and enjoy the beauty of each new snowfall. I have recently joined a writing group. Singing may be next.
