Cariboo Thoughts

With rivers wide and silty, space opens up
Pastures stretch out into the distance
Meadow grass so beautiful; subtle shades of green and rust
Cows, ever present, make their way with slow intention
An occasional pair of cranes lifts up
Their calls clanging through the quietness
With darkness, deeper silence
Broken only by the howl of wolf or yip of coyote
There is a starkness here
The land efficient, never extravagant
Its steadfast simplicity entraps you
Settles into your being as serenity
